Sponsor Me Here!

Sponsor a Mile...

Here is your opportunity to sponsor a mile of my swim! For every donation of €50 or more towards my fundraising, you can pick one mile of my 42-mile swim and be my sponsor for that mile. During that mile of my swim you will get a text message (if I have a mobile number for you) to let you know how I'm getting on. If I can get sponsors for every mile of my swim, that will raise over €2000 for my charities, which would be great! :)

Below are a list of the miles that are still open...pick one, click here to sponsor me and include in your message which mile you want to sponsor. If you've already sponsored me and want to pick your mile, email me at lisa@arockieswim.com. You can also email me on your mobile number if I don't have it and you want to get that text.

Let's start counting down those miles!!

The Charities

When I talk to people about my attempt to swim the Channel, one of the first questions that they ask is if I'm doing it for charity and how they can sponsor me. So now here's your chance! I've picked three charities to support, one online, and two offline. You can read more about the charities and how you can sponsor me below. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Online Charity  ‒  The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation  ‒  Sponsor Me!

I had two reasons for picking my online charity. I have worked part-time with children for about 10 years now through swimming teaching. I love working with children, it's so rewarding and they've provided me with so many smiles and laughs over the years. So when I went to choosing charities to support, one of them had to be a children's charity. I also talked to Eilís since training Channel swimmers is one of her ways of raising money for charity. We picked the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation as my online charity.

The Jack and Jill Foundation provide home respite for children up to four years of age who suffer from severe developmental delay and associated problems, requiring extensive medical and nursing care at home. Usually these children cannot function at birth and require 24 hour care. Jack and Jill provide funding to allow the family to hire a carer or nurse in order for them to get a break from this 24 hour caring role of looking after their Special Needs child.

My donation page is available here. You can donate via credit or debit card. If you have any questions about donating, please feel free to email me at lisa@arockieswim.com.

Offline Charities

In today's world there are few people who have not in some way been affected by cancer. I have lost a number of people close to me, both family and friends, to this horrible disease. When I was thinking about charities to support, I always wanted one of them to be a cancer charity so that I can give back something to the people who have worked so hard to help my family and friends at different times. I decided to divide my support between two very deserving local cancer charities.

Below are the bank details required if you wish to donate to the cancer charities that I have chosen:

Marymount Hospice

Marymount Hospice is a hospice in Cork City that provides help and support to terminally ill patients and their families when the illness is at an advanced stage. I have known a number of relatives and friends who have received their hospice care and they are truly a deserving charity. The staff are absolutely wonderful and do their utmost to provide support and care for people during a very difficult time.

As well as providing in-patient care to those who need it, Marymount provide a home care service and a day care centre. The home care service offers care and support to patients who choose to be cared for in their own homes. The service is designed to complement the skills and resources of the patient's own doctor. The day care centre is located in the Hospice. The service is primarily directed at patients who are home-based, and presents them with an opportunity to get out of their regular environment, to meet other patients in a stimulating setting, and to access the services of the Hospice. It also gives carers at home a short break from their care duties.

Cork ARC Cancer Support House

Cork ARC Cancer Support House is a voluntary organization established to provide a centre in which people with cancer and their families can find emotional support and practical help. The support is holistic and complements primary medical treatment with education and psychological care. A diagnosis of cancer has an enormous psychological impact, the effect of which can be prolonged. Cork ARC provides the necessary support when the patient leaves the hospital setting, and helps them to adjust to their life after diagnosis. Along with the support provided to cancer patients, Cork ARC provide support for family members and friends of those affected by cancer and for members of the caring professions who work with people with cancer.
